What a find! I wandered out from my hotel – Corus at Lancaster Gate – to drag 10 days worth of laundry to the very nice washer woman who will deal with the reeking pile while I shop, when I stumbled upon this cute little cafe.
The Cupcake Emporium at Lancaster Gate, it is. Memo opened it in February. Memo?, I said. Yes, replied he, just like the Post-it.
I sat down with the newspapers when a kiwi girl walked in. I said hi and we chatted. Yep – 2 degrees of separation. She used to fly for Air NZ and is now working on a luxury yacht. We have mutual friends!
£5.75 will buy you a cappucino and a strawberry cupcake with real fruit in it. The best I’ve ever had. Now off top shop on Oxford Street and pull this city out of recession.
Addendum: I had to come back the next morning to try another flavour and this time brought my laptop to make use of their free WiFi.
