The wedding season is upon us! I know this because my niece just announced her (long awaited) engagement and I am fielding Tweets from people wanting ideas (and great deals) on where to go for their honeymoon. So to kill all these birds in one blog, I’ve decided to spill the beans on websites you should bookmark to keep your eye on for the best prices to start your marriage off right.
Tahiti is always popular, especially in an overwater bungalow with a 4-poster bed, but it can be pricey. What you need to look out for are package deals that include flights, accommodation and if possible, a meal plan. Even if that’s just breakfast, you can save lots by scoffing as much as possible in the morning, then buy gorgeous French cheeses and fresh daily baguettes from the local supermarche, and just splash out on dinner.
My favourite sites to keep an eye on for deals to Tahiti are TahitiNow.co.nz and TahitiVacations.co.nz. Look for packages to islands like Moorea and Bora Bora, with a night either side in Papeete to coordinate with flights. (Click here for my whole category of Tahiti blogs for best places to stay and what to do when you’re there – as if you honeymooners need my help!)
But if a remote island is not your idea of the perfect honeymoon and you’d rather stay in an apartment in crazy New York or Rome or Paris, then check out Airbnb.com for affordable accommodation. What you get here are people who make either a room available in their home, or have an entire flat/apartment that they rent out much cheaper than hotels.
Then there’s TrustedHousesitters.com. These guys are based in England but visited NZ recently and bought me a coffee to tell me all about what they do. Pretty much, you can stay in houses all over the world for free in return for looking after pets and watering plants. They have properties on their books like villas in the south of France or Tuscany, apartments in London or Portugal. And you typically stay for a week at a time, sometimes you even get the owner’s car to go exploring in!
For romantic holidays in Thailand I LOVE Hua Hin, a quiet little beach town south of Bangkok. Click here for my Top 3 romantic resorts here >>>

And if you’re looking for flights within Europe or other tricky places that the main airlines out of NZ don’t service, try Skyscanner.co.nz. This site will search every airline between the destinations you select and display them by price, then you click through on the one you like and book direct with the airline. No fees and if you’re a points member, you can still accumulate or spend them.
I hope that gets you started – and congratulations!
