The best things to do in Rome

Shoe shopping is right at the top of my Best Things to do in Rome list.

I spent only two days roaring around the Eternal City. Two days is silliness. But I did put in a sterling effort to see and do, eat and drink and photograph as much as physically possible.

I whipped around most of the must-sees but on the last morning I had a terrible choice to make. Would I go back and buy 2 pairs of shoes that were on sale at this amazing shop (we’re talking red stilettos with tie ups round the ankle) or forfeit them and see the Sistine Chapel

Eventually common sense prevailed and I realised I could buy postcards of the world’s most famous art gallery, but those shoes were not going to be on sale forever.

Once you’ve got your shoes, here are some of the Best Things to do in Rome:

Climb the Spanish Steps, throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain, imagine the horror of gladiator fighting at The Colosseum, buy tickets online to avoid queues at St Peters Basilica in Vatican City (and see the Sistine Chapel), gaze in awe at the open ceiling and art on the walls in The Pantheon and head for pasta and chianti at restaurants with tables spilling into the streets of Trastevere
