3 amazing small group tours over 4 weeks – May/June 2020

“Thank you Megan for converting me to the world of small group touring, it was like travelling with a group of friends and family. Whether you are a couple, friends or solo traveller, I would highly recommend travelling with ‘Blogger at Large’. Bring on the next tour!” – Kerrie

These three separately sold tours are designed for you to join one, two or all of them as we realise many people have visited Europe before and want to see places they haven’t been to.

The three itineraries have been designed by myself and Weka Travel to create these wonderful boutique holidays for a maximum of 12 guests per tour. There are a couple of days between each for free time to plan your own holiday and incorporate the tour that most interests you.

Tour of Italy

ITALY • May 10 – 19

Starting in Rome, we will stay just outside of the city in boutique accommodation in the beautiful hilltop village of Frascati with views of Rome.

Frascati is the centre of Rome’s wine and cuisine region and is the heart of the Castelli Romani area that since ancient Roman times, emperors and popes have been coming to enjoy life away from the crowds and tourists as well as the best food and wine.

Day 2: Rome

Private day tour in Rome including VIP skip-the-line tickets to the Colosseum, plus visiting the amazing sites of the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, incredible underground churches and ancient homes with a delicious lunch in Trastevere.

Day 3: Rome

We will visit the local markets in Frascati with a chef and have fun cooking our own lunch – with wine of course! This afternoon we head into the lakes and villages of Castelli Romani to explore the local life of Castel Gandolfo (the summer residence villa and town of the Pope), as well as Lake Nemi known for the strawberries that grow all year.

Dinner with local wines will be at a local restaurant of Ariccia known for its slow roasted pork.

Day 4: Rome

We will head back into Rome today for a private guided tour with skip line tickets to the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peters Basilica. Free afternoon and evening. Dinner is not included tonight, but in Frascati, you can explore a local dining experience that is unique to just this town.

Day 5: Umbria, Orvieto, Tuscany

We head into the Umbrian countryside exploring the breathtaking town of Civita di Bagnoregio perched majestically above a valley accessed only by footpath. After exploring the village, we will drive to Orvieto, another stunning town where most tourists don’t venture.

We then drive to a Tuscan village where we will stay tonight and enjoy the many dining options for the evening.

Day 6: Florence

Today we go to Florence, exploring the medieval and wine towns of Montepulciano and Siena along the way with our local guide. Lunch is included at a winery with tastings and delicious Tuscan cuisine.

Day 7: Florence

With our local guide we will explore the sights of Florence including the markets, Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, the best local eateries, culture and of course, Michelangelo’s David in the Accademia with skip line tickets. Free afternoon and evening to shop, eat and explore.

Day 8: Venice

Today we take the fast train from Florence to Venice where we will be taken by private watertaxi on the Grand Canal to arrive in style at our hotel.

This afternoon we head out with our local guide on a walking tour to explore Venice away from the crowds: the local life, people, cuisine and wine as the locals do, including the Rialtomarkets, San Marco and skip line tickets into San Marco Basilica. Dinner is included in a local restaurant.

Day 9: Venice

The morning is free, then in the afternoon we take the boat to Murano to explore this amazing island built around the artesian craft of glassblowing. Then back out on the lagoon to the stunning picturesque island of Burano with its brightly coloured painted homes and the handmade lacework that makes this place so unique.

Tonight we will enjoy a Farewell Banquet – one to remember with the backdrop of Venice and the canals, and an evening gondola ride.

Our Italy tour concludes the next morning, May 19th.

Hi Megan I haven't read the in-depth itineraries of your trips but I liked the sound of all of them. What is the cost for each one in nz dollars please. I have no idea of euros. Thanks. Margaret

Hi Margaret, that will change daily depending on exchange rates, but as all the hotels and the cruise is in Euros, we've used that. Use this tool to check on it at any time
