If you’re a sizzling satay lover then you need to head to Satay Club (aka Boon Tat Street) where plastic topped tables crowd the evening’s cordoned off road and smoking satay houses line the footpath.
For lovers of a cheap and cheerful night out with a hankering for authentic, tasty street food, this is it.
Boon Tat is very popular after work hours and you can expect to wait for a table, but last night we got here about 8.30pm and it was easy to get seated.
Five of us sat down at the conveniently named Best Satay located at numbers 7 & 8, and ordered a couple of jugs of Tiger beer ($17 each – incidentally a draught beer in the hotel is $15-$18 for a pint) and our guide Toon Hee ordered the food. At 60c a pop he began with 20 skewers each – I know!
Mutton, chicken and beef with our own little pottles of divine satay sauce – and more free upon request. Surprisingly it was the mutton that was my fave.
