Ever thought about cruising in the Caribbean?

There are a cruises and there are cruises! There are those that the blue-rinse brigade and their mobile scooters love and there are those where outdoor movie screens and whizzy slides mean more of a uni crowd and younger families.

Get the party started!

Get the party started!

My sister and I headed off for a 1-week cruise around the Caribbean from Miami to Cozumel, Mexico then on to Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios Jamaica and back to Miami on the latter. We went on Carnival Cruises – known as the ‘party ships’.

Here’s a link to my cruise story in the NZ Herald.

And yep, we’d do it again for sure!

Hi Megan , I love following you on fb and reading yr blog . We are heading to the States on a tour with Jamie McKay ending in Houston 21st Nov . 2018 We are wanting to add a Caribbean tour on after that . I’ve been reading your comments . The only one we like is on a ship called Carnival Fascination . Departing 25 th Nov & returning to San Juan . It’s a Southern Caribbean tour . 7 days only 1 day at sea . That’s the attraction . San Juan , St Thomas , at sea , Barbados, St Lucia , St Kitts, St Maarten, San Juan

We would of liked a longer cruise but at that time of the year they seem mostly 7 days or less .

Then thinking as the ship gets in at 7 am to have the day and a night in San Juan exploring . Then fly bk home .

The suggestion from the travel agent is on a celebrity cruise ship from Miami but 3 days out of 7 at sea . We have found the Carnival Cruise ourselves and will get bk to the agent in Invercargill tomorrow . We are in Feilding but as the Jamie McKay tour is being organised by Pia in Hse of Travel in Invercargill have to book it all through her . Just wondering what your thoughts are on the ship and itinerary, as presume you know the area quite well with yr brother living there .

It’s been my dream to get to the Caribbean so don’t want to have regrets afterwards that there was a better way to see it . Many thanks for any advice . Gretchen. PS I bought one of your Cabeau travel pillows for our son traveling to France next week . Waiting for his report before I buy my own lol !! Looked great tho thanks .

Hi Gretchen, sorry I don't know that specific ship but I did have a hoot on a very similar itinerary and similar ship with my sister in the Caribbean a few years ago. This is a great way to see it, but I would suggest you also Google some places you might want to visit in each place and maybe organise your own tour or a taxi so you're not always caught up with a huge number of people on a ship excursion. Sometimes it's just nice to potter around too and then plan where to go back and visit for longer next time! Your son will love that pillow :) - Megan
