Leap off Victoria Falls!

You’ve done bungy jumping and white water rafting, you’ve sky dived and eaten a cockroach… are you ready for the next big adrenalin thrill?

I was lucky enough to be staying not far from here at the Royal Livingstone Hotel where we could walk along the river, past giraffe grazing quietly, to the Victoria Falls.

In Livingstone, Zambia you can go out to Livingstone Island in the dry season (July to March) on the edge of the Zambezi River and when the mighty Victoria Falls (twice the height of Niagara at 110m) dwindle you can jump off the edge of the roaring falls of mist into this jacuzzi called the Devil’s Pool in the very dry months (usually late August to January).

It was accidentally discovered by a fisherman, who no doubt is still off somewhere giving thanks.

If you want to do this, only 16 people at a time take a boat ride down the mighty Zambezi where the sound of the crashing Mosi-oa-Tunya falls (meaning The Smoke That Thunders) and the mist are seen from huge distances.

The only licensed tour company to run visits to little Livingstone Island is Tongabezi Tours. DO NOT go with unlicensed guides as it can be very dangerous. Obviously!

Me? I’d rather eat the guide’s shorts.

The magnificent Victoria Falls features in the 7 wonders of the world. I wrote this post covering all 7 – if you want to check them off your bucket list.

If you want to get a taste of Africa’s amazing animals, I wrote this post of a round up of the best live animal webcams in Africa for you – and the kids – to enjoy!
